Disaster in the Philippines

Five days ago, the deadly Haiyan typhoon hit the coast of the Philippines, about 2,000 people are reported dead, but it is believed that the death toll will be over 10,000. The Philippines experiences around 20 typhoons a year, but this is one of the biggest typhoons recorded in history. Thousands have already been evacuated from Tacloban, one of the largest cities in the Philippines, thousands more have been moved to Manilla. While aid is being sent to the large cities such as Tacloban and Manilla, it is the smaller rural areas that are suffering with absolutely no help being sent their way. While impossible to safely get aid to those areas, they have been completely wiped out and there is no official count of those that died in those areas.
As this is a devastating time for all those in the Philippines, their friends and families in other parts of the world, and those in surrounding countries, it is important that as many countries can come to their aid and help them get through this. This Link gives information on the different ways you can help the people affected by this horrible tragedy.

My Grandma was born and raised in the Philippines and it has been a really difficult time for her lately knowing that many of her friends and family are there and are in great danger. We have family that lives in the Philippines and in Thailand and as far as we know they are all ok, but we know that the recovery process for their country is going to be quite a process. . Millions have lost their homes and have nowhere to go and nothing to eat. It is times like these that we realize that the world should come together to try and do as much as we can to help.

  1. Wow... It is always hard to hear about destruction like this. It is especially hard to hear when it happens in a country where the houses are not built as strong as here in America. It is just amazing what weather can do. I know that aid will arrive, but it is really hard to get there when you have everything destroyed and all roads blocked. I just cant imagine what those people must be dealing with and thinking.
It just opens are eyes to see that life is different in other parts of the world. We should really be thankful for what we have in life in America. Americans sometimes don't realize how good our life is here in America. We shouldn't boast about what we have. We should help the less fortunate and poor instead of just using our wealth for things that we don't need. I pray that everything is ok with your grandma's family and friends back in the Philippines.
