| Planet of the Apes: The worst remake of all time. |
Throughout the history of american films, only a select few motion pictures have been chosen to be remade and reintroduced to a new a generation. Some of these films have become new favorites to fans of the originals, but most just become a pure embarrassment to their original version. It seems as if remakes are becoming more and more popular today but at the same time these films seem to be consistently missing their mark and just flopping with audiences. So why oh why do they keep making these train wrecks of films? I wish there was an answer that would stop all this nonsense. Movies such as Planet of the Apes, which according to imdb.com, is one of the WORST remakes of all time. Yet what does a film industry do to fix this mass of a remake? They create Rise of the Planet of the Apes..Seriously? Planet of the the apes tops a long list of awful remakes that include The Pink Panther starring Steve Martin, Poseidon(Which starred Kurt Russel who was an original cast member of The Poseidon Adventure), and The Day the Earth Stood Still which starred Keanu Reeves(enough said). The Day the Earth Stood Still is a beloved film to movie buffs everywhere and is considered a timeless classic to many, so why do we keep butchering our most beloved films by creating these awful remakes?

I believe that this is a direct result of a lack of creativity from within Hollywood as of late. This era of remakes has gone far past the point of simply paying homage to an original film or trying to put one's own unique spin on one of their favorite classics. It has come to a point of almost desperation for film producers to just put something out in theaters to try to make some money. While many films today are originals, whether they be good or not, there are still a significant amount of these remakes coming out right alongside them. Some of them hits, most of them misses. This lack of creativity is clear to see and is becoming a larger problem with every new release.
I agree whole heartedly with you Francisco, some movies are just pure classics and should not have to be shadowed by embarrassing and horrendous remakes.
