Flesh-eating 'zombie' drug 'kills you from the inside out'(CNN.com)

While I was on CNN.com, I came across an article that was near my home town, Oswego, Illinois. Twenty minutes outside of Oswego is Joliet, Illinois. In the past week there have been five cases of the new zombie drug, krokodil. This is a flesh eating disease that kills humans from the inside out. This drug causes serious damage to the soft tissue and veins, and can give a person gangrene or necrosis. The soft tissue damage seems to happen around the injection site. The drug clumps in the veins and doesn't completely dissolve in the blood. The drug originally came from Russia and is illegally getting into the USA. First we saw it arise in Utah and New Mexico, and then most recently it spread to Joliet, Illinois. The drug is a knock-off of Heroine and is 1/3 of the price of actual Heroine. Its key ingredients are gasoline, paint thinner, and bathroom cleaner. "In Russia, users frequently are young people with relatively short drug histories, the study found. Medical help is often only sought after users are in the late stages of their addiction and end up with severe mutilations, rotting gums, bone infections, decayed structure of the jaw and facial bones, sores and ulcers on the forehead and skull as well as rotting ears, noses and lips and liver and kidney problems."(CNN.com) My thoughts on this topic are very concerning because, living just twenty minutes away from the hospital it shows how real and close these dangers are. This is just the beginning of the drug. With many people not being able to afford their heroin addiction this drug will spread knowing that it is the third of the price.
Wow!! That's crazy, I've never even heard of such a thing like that. Hopefully it doesn't become more of a problem than it already is!
ReplyDeleteyou are so silly mitch lets hope it doesn't tehe
DeleteThis sounds like it's my kind of drug! But, in all seriousness that really is some crazy.. stuff. The side affects are almost as alarming as to the fact that people are willing to take such a drug (I'm sure a lot of users of the drug know the risks). It just goes to show how messed up the world around us can really get. Lets just hope this can be stopped before it becomes a serious issue.
